Tag Clouds - Okay… that’s a little scary

I’ve been playing around a bit with the sidebars over to the right… over there ————->

You see, I’m using a WordPress theme by Ravi Varma called PrimePress at the moment but I’m looking to make something a bit more “me”… Maybe add a little music to the side… Perhaps add a few pictures so that you actually know what I look likeadding a visual may actually stop people from reading…

One of the neatest widgets that I’ve seen on Wordpress (and probably other blogging software but I don’t use them, do I?) is the use of Tag Clouds…

A tag cloud is a set of related tags with corresponding weights. Typical tag clouds have between 30 and 150 tags. The weights are represented using font sizes or other visual clues. Meanwhile, histograms or pie charts are most commonly used to represent approximately a dozen different weights. Hence, tag clouds can represent many more weights, though less accurately so. Also, frequently, tag clouds are interactive: tags are hyperlinks typically allowing the user to drill down on the data. ~ courtesy of Wikipedia.org

Per the definition… a tag cloud is a type of chart giving the reader an idea of what the writer has written about the most… I was a little scared surprised by mine… Here is an example:

About the Divorce Adam answers asshole beach Beth birthday Brian child support Christmas dear you Dexter documentation family forfeit funny shit holiday holidays horoscope house Jimmy kids lexapro love Love Songs lumps New Years Eve outings phone calls pictures politics questions Rosalee scorpio selling sick kids Steve stupidity Survivor texts Thanksgiving thyroid venting visitation Wilmington

Wow… I really had a lot to say about the divorce, didn’t I? Is the fact that the word asshole is the same size as Brian a clue? How come the word texts is so much larger than phone calls? oh yeah… I don’t use the phone… oooooo… The word selling is directly in front of sick kids… another clue??

Although I really appreciate this fantastic insight into my psyche and writing, I think I’ll leave the tag cloud widget off of my page for a while… At least until the word asshole isn’t so prevalent…

haha, this cracked me up. I noticed the same types of things when I did a wordle (wordle.net). I thought, Man, do I really gripe that much?

I think I may rename parts of my blog as my rant.

That’s pretty funny! I need to put tags on there more often and see what my cloud looks like. Or maybe I shouldn’t. At least yours shows your sassiness!

Hi–Just back from vacation and catching up with your blog. This post totally cracked me up! I would be scared and excited to see a tag cloud of my own blog. I started out with Blogger because that is what I saw first but I must confess to Wordpress envy because they seem to have better features like the tag cloud and more flexibility in layout but I think it would be a pain to change.

And I wanted to tell you I’m glad you enjoyed the Lego site (you mentioned that in an e-mail a while back) — my son and I had to sit and look at all the photos too. Glad you enjoyed it as much as I did!

And thanks so much for visiting my blog. It is much appreciated! : )

As rolls swell in the recession, workers find firms are contesting claims by alleging wrongdoing or quitting in a bid to not pay benefits.
